As a British overseas territory, Bermuda has a few traditions that are typically inherited from Great Britain such as a love for golf and cricket. The Sunday brunch is another one of them shared by the majority of the island’s residents.
It is a moment taken very seriously and for which we are getting up early on Sunday mornings to get dressed and ready for the occasion. This also means that we are fussy when it comes to what we are having fro brunch and while some Bermudians are satisfied with a type of light lunch, many are on the lookout for the best traditional brunch.
There is many places that are doing good Sunday brunches but the best on the island is without doubt The Reefs. In 2011, it was presented with the Best of Bermuda Award for best Sunday brunch by The Bermudian for the fourth time in six years (2006, 2008 and 2010). That is surely a guarantee that the Sunday brunch at restaurant located on the South Shore Road, Southampton, has something unique. In order to celebrate this new award, The Reefs are offering a free Sunday brunch for four guests each month to those who sign up to the hotel’s online newsletter.
Those who have already been to The Reefs’ restaurant, the Ocean’s Echo will agree that it is place with a special feeling. What better view can be asked for on a Sunday morning that that of the glittering ocean from behind the massive wall of window of the restaurant high atop the South Shore cliffs? The proof that it is the best is in the parking of dozens of cars outside The Reefs each Sunday mornings.
Be warned that it is a very popular and busy Sunday brunch and that it is recommended to arrive early so that you can choose the best tables. Those by the windows have of course the best ocean views. You can also opt for an al fresco brunch on the terrace for an even better experience. Sunday brunch is served from 12 noon to 3pm so plan to be there before 12 noon if you can.
There is everything you would expect from a Sunday brunch at the Ocean’s Echo, but also Bermuda local dishes such as peas and rice or the famous fish chowder. The food is great and there are also some made-to-order stations to complement the prodigious buffet. As for the tables, the best dishes can be running out fast so don’t waste time getting seated!
The Reefs has also introduced country-themed brunch specials a few years ago to make this time even more special and exciting.
The Reefs is one of Bermuda most intimate resorts and was established in 1947. Its location on top of the limestone cliffs of the South Shore gives it guests some of the most spectacular views of the Bermuda’s pink sand beaches and the ocean. It is one of the reasons it was voted the number one resort in the Atlantic by the readers of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler magazine.
You can therefore expect a great service and an unforgettable moment if you decide to go for the best Sunday brunch of Bermuda at The Reefs.
