Many couples are coming on the island to get married or for their honeymoon, choosing to celebrate their love on a sailboat or a resort. Bermuda even have a street dedicated to them, the Lover’s Lane, in Paget Parish.
Lover’s Lane is off Middle Road, in the parish of Paget and one of the accesses to the Paget Marsh Nature Reserve. But it is mostly a neighbourhood street that every couple visiting the island,whether it is on their honeymoon, after a few years of marriage or before they even get married, should be going to on a pilgrimage during their stay.
Coincidence or just chance, there are some businesses specialised in weddings or related to located on Lover’s Lane such as Awesome Events, a company specialising in destination weddings.Another one is Wave Length, a personal care boutique, and Paget Drycleaners, at the corner of Lover’s lane and Middle Road.
While there is nothing unusual in Lover’s Lane, the street gave its name in 2011 to a virtual guide to all things related to Valentine’s Day. Lovers Lane is a collective of local businesses who are decided to play their part in spreading the love on the island every February 14th. Businesses members of Lovers Lane offer different discounts on their products to web users in order to promote their shops but also to help lovers to celebrate Valentine’s Day with style. For web users to benefit from the offers of Lovers Lane, they must book or buy the products before or on February 9. This is what is now known as the Lovers Lane Discount Day.
About 20 businesses involved in the dealings of goods and services connected with love and romance are taking part in this operation and over a dozen offer discounts on their best ideas to celebrate Valentine’s Day. For the first year of Lovers Lane, in 2011, the portal Bermuda.com ran a competition with The Reefs and Flower By GiMi. The prize for the contestant with the most romantic experience was a two-night stay at The Reefs, meals, spa treatments and flowers.
The businesses members of Lovers Lane are restaurants, department stores, florists, spas and accessories boutiques.
