Unless you are lucky to get as much time as you want for lunch, most of us have to do with an hour to get somewhere, order, get our food served, eat, pay and go back to work. Sandwiches are practical and easy to eat, but let’s be honest, having them everyday is a bit of a let down, however good they can be.
So why not breaking your routine and grabbing some lunch on the move at a takeout? In Bermuda, the Lemon Tree Cafe has been voted the best takeout deli for the second time running by The Bermudian in their Best of Bermuda Awards.
Located in Queen Street, right at the heart of Hamilton, the Lemon Tree is a popular upmarket café that serves some of the freshest ingredients in town. There are notably roasting and carving their meats every day. The café serves lunch of course but also breakfasts with the particularity to offer some unique items such as Bermuda fishcakes on raisin buns, a speciality of the island. You can still go for the more traditional bacon and eggs breakfast though.
There is a great atmosphere as well in the Lemon Tree that contribute to its popularity. During the summer months, from May to October, the place is open until midnight on Fridays and turns into the Tiki Bar for with live DJ and dancing. The café is located in a really unique park setting, the Par-La-Ville Park, that start just at the back of the premises. It is a real oasis of freshness and calm in Hamilton and is used as an extensive seating area by the customers of the Lemon Tree when it’s too full.
Lunch at the Lemon Tree is why the place deserved its two consecutive titles of best takeout deli on the island. The café managed by Brendan and Elisha Huttick will satisfy everyone, even the most difficult and discerning palates. The café menu has many sandwiches, salads, baguettes and ciabattas, and wraps as well as hot specialities such as homemade chicken or beef pies.
The difference between the Lemon Tree Deli and many other cafés is the extensive food styles the culinary team takes its inspiration from. You can find many styles in the deli’s carte such as American, Greek and Mediterranean, Indian and Pakistani, Irish, Seafood, and Vegetarian. They even have one of the only wood burning pizza oven and roast and carve fresh meats daily.
One of the best sandwich is probably the Parma ham and Brie cheese, one of the best wrap is the crabmeat and avocado, while the chicken salad is considered as the best one in Hamilton. Some of the daily specials are absolutely wonderful and the chilled fresh salmon with a garlic blue-cheese dressing for example will make your lunch as good as a dinner in a restaurant.
It is even possible to enjoy the fresh and delicious food from the Lemon Tree at a function or for a special occasion because they do catering. They will consider any size of order and even any deadline, however close that is. If needed, they can even lend you the café as the venue to host your event.
The Lemon Tree even has a small stall that sells its produce in Port Royal, the Lemon Tree On The Go located at Terceira’s Service Station, on Middle Road. There is no more excuse for not trying the best takeout deli in Bermuda!
