If aces, lobs and smashes are your thing or maybe you just like keeping fit, then the Bermuda Squash Racquets Club is the ideal place for you. The club is open to both members and non-members meaning you can enjoy the extensive facilities even if you’re just visiting Bermuda for a few days or staying for an extended period to work or for leisure.
The Club – or Association as it’s formally known – has four squash courts; a fully-equipped gymnasium: The Argus; changing rooms with showering facilities; and a bar/cafe to relax after exerting yourself.
The club also has a programme to keep you fit as well as learning sports and other pursuits including squash coaching, personal fitness training, fitness assessments and weight management courses are also available. There is also a shop purveying racquets, shoes, bags other kit.
The Bermuda Squash Racquets Club is located in Middle Road, Devonshire parish and is ideally situated to access by car, bike or public transport. Members are allowed 24 hour access to the club. Visitors are only allowed in between 10am and 10pm.
The Argus Gym covers 2 stories and has the following equipment:
- 3 Stairmaster step machines
- 2 Cybex Full Exercise Bikes
- 1 Cybex Semi Exercise Bike
- Free-weight dumbbells for weight lifting and toning
- 1 Cybex flat-to-incline bench weight lifting and toning
- Leg Press/Leg Extension resistance machine
- Leg Curling machine
- Fly-weight machine
- Rowing machine
The Argus Gym also TV’s, a stereo, drinks machines and benefits from air conditioning to keep the climate perfect for exercising.
The club offers social evenings as part of its programme which allows members and non-members to come along and play racquet sports in a relaxed environment. You can just show up on the evening and the National Team Coach will assess your standard of play and match you up with similarly skilled players so you can have a challenging game or two. It’s then off you the bar afterwards to relax and chat with other members and non-members with a quiz night thrown in for fun. It’s ideal for solitary visitors to the island and small groups to home their skills whilst meeting new people.
The club also boast many official tournaments from junior local matches to international senior competitions and recent tournaments have included the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships and the Bermuda Squash Challenge is due to be played in December 2012 with entrants from all over north America and the Caribbean.
